Busy week in the Capitol with lots of budget hearings (none on housing this week). Policy committee agendas are swelling (a few housing bills up this week). Floors meet Monday and Thursday but action is light.
The following bills were amended in the past 7 days: AB 291 (Chiu) – Protecting tenants based on immigration status. AB 686 (Santiago) – Affirmatively furthering fair housing. AB 915 (Ting) – Expanding application of Density Bonus law. SB 3 (Beall) – Housing Bond. SB 167 (Skinner) – Housing Accountability Act.
Tues – Asm Judiciary @ 9 AM AB 291 (Chiu) – Protecting tenants based on immigration status. Wed – Sen Gov & Finance @ 9:30 AM SB 3 (Beall)- $3B housing bond.
Last week we cataloged the threatened cuts to HUD’s budget and other programs benefiting poor Americans. Those became a reality later in the week. But how many of these threatened cuts will ultimately be enacted? According to some, there is a lot of daylight between proposal and final action.

Busy week for this early in the year. Floors meet Monday and Thursday. Bill hearings are beginning, including several housing-related measures. The Housing CA Conference will bring housers to the Capitol this week to lobby for critical housing bills.
