Very little official acton this week as the session continues to ramp up. Bill introduction deadline February 22 is a little less than three weeks away. The floors will meet Monday and Thursday with little business to conduct.
A new study out of Chicago says upzonings like those proposed in recent legislation in California not only fail to increase supply but seem to increase, not decrease, housing costs.
Most of the attention this week in the Capitol will be focused on next month’s bill introduction deadline, as members work to decide what bills will make the cut for 2019. Floors meet Monday and Thursday but there is little business to conduct.
Wednesday @ 9:30 – Joint hearing of Asm. Housing and Asm. Local Government Committees
Background materials pending.
Budget informational hearings start this week in the wake of Gov. Newsom’s first budget, which includes new funding and policy proposals on housing and homelessness. Otherwise, this week is mostly focused on getting new bill ideas into Legislative Counsel’s office before next Friday’s deadline for submitting drafting requests to Counsel.
